چکیده

Results: In Study One, nursery pigs exhibiting clinical signs of PRDC and treated with THF at 165.0 ppm showed significantly better treatment success than did controls, defined as body temperature < 40oC and respiratory and depression scores < 2 on Day 17 (P < .001), with lower total percent pneumonia lesions (P < .001) and mortality (P < .05). In the THF 137.5 ppm group, total percent pneumonia lesions (P < .001) and mortality (P < .05) were lower than in controls. Treatment success did not differ between the THF 137.5 ppm group and the controls. In Study Two, total percent pneumonia lesions was lower in the THF 165.0 ppm group (11.76%; P < .001) and 137.5 ppm group (16.02%; P < .05) than in controls (22.35%).

Tiamulin feed medication for the maintenance of weight gains in the presence of mycoplasmal pneumonia in swine.

Tiamulin, a semisynthetic antibiotic, was fed to growing pigs and its value in maintaining weight gain and feed efficiency in the face of mycoplasmal pneumonia was determined. Four treatments divided among 64 growing pigs from a conventional pig farm were used to test the effects of tiamulin administered in feed at levels of 10, 20 and 30 ppm. All pigs were artificially infected with Mycoplasma...

Mycoplasma Hyopneumoniae - Epidemiology and Control

Respiratory disease is an economically devastating syndrome affecting swine production worldwide. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyo) is a key pathogen involved with enzootic pneumonia (EP) and the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC). Enzootic pneumonia is composed of M. hyo and secondary bacteria such as Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus suis, Haemophilus parasuis, and Actinobacillus p...

Global transcriptional analysis of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae following exposure to hydrogen peroxide.

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, the causative agent of swine enzootic pneumonia, colonizes the cilia of swine lungs, causing ciliostasis and cell death. M. hyopneumoniae is a component of the porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) and is especially problematic for the finishing swine industry, causing the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in farm revenues worldwide. For successful infection...

Title : Assessment of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae strain variability and relationship to virulence - NPB # 02 - 126

The objective of this proposal is to assess variability of low-passage, field strains of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. Five strains were evaluated in a pig challenge model by comparing lung lesion scores with virulent strain 11. In addition, we studied the feasibility of using microarrays and other molecular techniques to assess genetic differences in twelve field strains. Introduction: M. hyopneum...

Prevention and Control of Respiratory Diseases Excluding Mycoplasma Hyopneumoniae

Introduction Significant changes in respiratory disease have occurred over the last 20 years. There are two primary reasons for this. In the first instance, there has been the occurrence of two major worldwide plagues-PRRS and PCV2-associated diseases. The second reason has been the considerable advances in vaccination, which have become available for some of the respiratory diseases, in partic...
